What happens if I choose to copy an empowered unit when I equip an unempowered unit with Shady Spectacles?
The equipped unit remains unempowered. Copy effects copy printed (or already-copied) traits; empowered is a status — a temporary modification — and isn't copyable. Temporary modifications already on the equipped unit (Might changes, buffs, statuses, attacker/defender, etc.) also remain in place.
What happens when Akshan, Mischievous steals an equipped Shady Spectacles? Does copying Aphelios trigger him twice?
The previously equipped unit loses its copy effect, and Akshan becomes a copy of a friendly unit of his controller's choice. As of the Vendetta rules update, effects like Shady Spectacles and Svellsongur replace the attach event with attach-then-copy as separate, sequential events. By the time the copy applies, the attach event has already completed, so a copied trigger like Aphelios's can't see it. This supersedes the Spiritforged FAQ answer — attaching Svellsongur to Aphelios no longer triggers him twice.
If I detach and reattach Shady Spectacles to the same unit copying the same card, can I use the copied activated ability again?
Yes. Each instance of a copied ability is a different ability. The game object stays the same, so temporary modifications persist, but the copied rules text is an entirely new instance — the same way Svellsongur's copied ability is refreshed by detaching and reattaching it.
