Section 446 — 5 rules
- 446.1.
- Copying a Game Object is the act of adding or replacing some or all of the copyable traits of another Game Object with those of the Copied Game Object.
- 446.2.
- Copy Effects are rendered in the Copy Effects layer. See rule 475. Layers for more information.
- 446.3.
- Some Game Objects may be created as a Copy of another Game Object. This is not a Copy Effect. The Copy in such a case is rendered with the same copyable traits as those of the Game Object it is a Copy of. It has no printed traits of its own that are subsequently replaced. Example: Zilean, Time Mage is a unit that reads “Once each turn, if you would play a token unit while I'm at a battlefield, you may play that token and an additional copy of it instead.” The additional copy played by Zilean’s replacement effect has no printed traits of its own. Its printed traits are those of the token it is a copy of.
- 446.4.
- Copy is a Limited Action.
- 446.4.a.
- Players may only Copy Game Objects when directed to by Game Effects.

Can this card only return the specific card I picked as my Chosen Champion? What about another copy of the same card?
You can return another copy of the same card. Hallowed Tomb refers to “your Chosen Champion," but it's quite possible that you won't be able to verify whether a card in your trash is the specific card you chose. For example, your Chosen Champion might have been played, returned to your hand, and then discarded; you wouldn't be able to prove to your opponent that it wasn't another copy of the same card. Because of this, the updated rules treat all copies of the card you designated as your Chosen Champion as interchangeable.
Does Svellsongur copy text that the unit has gained from other sources, such as the Assault granted by Cleave? What about text it's gained from other Equipment?
No. Svellsongur only copies the text that's actually printed on the unit. Copies take on original traits without regard to subsequent alterations.
Aphelios, Exalted has an ability that triggers when I attach an Equipment to him and tells me to "choose one that hasn't been chosen this turn." If I attach Svellsongur to him, does he have the second copy of his ability in time for both to trigger? And do I have to choose different options?
He does have the second copy of his ability in time, and it will trigger. The restriction applies separately to each instance of his ability, so you could choose the same option for both.
If I conquer a battlefield with Zilean, Time Mage, can I copy him with my Deceiver legend? Will I make infinite Zileans?
Yes, you can copy Zilean, but no infinite copies result. The Deceiver reflexive trigger effect for turning the tokens into copies of Zilean takes place after they are already resolved. By the time copies are made, no subsequent play action triggers Zilean's replacement effect again.
What happens if I choose to copy an empowered unit when I equip an unempowered unit with Shady Spectacles?
The equipped unit remains unempowered. Copy effects copy printed (or already-copied) traits; empowered is a status — a temporary modification — and isn't copyable. Temporary modifications already on the equipped unit (Might changes, buffs, statuses, attacker/defender, etc.) also remain in place.
What are Riftbound's deck construction rules? Minimum deck size, copy limits, signature cards, and battlefields?
Per rule 103, a Riftbound deck requires: one Champion Legend (placed in the Legend Zone); a Main Deck of at least 40 cards including one Chosen Champion Unit plus Units, Gear, and Spells, with up to 3 copies of any named card (rule 103.3.b). Your deck's Domain Identity is determined by your Champion Legend's domains — every card in the Main Deck must match that Domain Identity (rule 103.2.b). The Chosen Champion must share the champion tag named on your Legend (e.g., a Jinx Legend permits Jinx, Rebel or Jinx, Demolitionist as the Chosen Champion). Battlefields are tracked separately, with quantity determined by the Mode of Play.
